It’s only human nature to want to do well, and studies have shown that those who prepare for their IQ test generally score better than those who don’t.
However, there are also some tips and tricks you can implement into your IQ test preparation which don’t involve poring over endless verbal reasoning questions, syllogisms, or number sequences. In fact, all of the tips below are things you can work into your normal daily schedule, and which might just give you the edge to inch your IQ test result up a notch or two!
Listening to Music
That’s right – listening to certain kinds of music can help you study for your IQ test, and studies have even suggested that some pieces of classical music might boost your IQ without you even realising it. At the top of the list of recommended musical compositions is Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major. This particular sonata is said to improve your spatial insight!
We all know that exercise and playing sports is good for our physical bodies and fitness, but did you know it could also help prepare for your IQ test, too? Exercise increases the oxygen levels in your blood, which activates the brain and increases your reflexes. This is especially true for older IQ test sitters, who will find that regular exercise increases their reaction speeds and their overall IQ.
Trick of the Mind
Research shows that people who are told they are going to take an IQ test perform worse than those who are merely told they are going to solve a set of puzzles. Try and see the IQ test as a series of simple challenges, or an exercise for the brain, rather than as a ‘test’. This will help ease the pressure of being tested, and could see you score a little bit more highly.
Drink… in Moderation
Interestingly, drinking one alcoholic drink prior to an IQ test has been shown to help with verbal reasoning and syllogism-based IQ test questions. It goes without saying that any more than one drink will make those verbal skills drop quite rapidly. Coffee and tea, too, can help – these drinks increase your spatial insight abilities.
